UNDERSCORED: Piano Trio No. 1 by Pierre Jalbert
“Jalbert is the real thing, a composer who has things to say and says them very, very, well."
Huffington Post

“Music of considerable elegance, and breathtaking beauty and lyricism ... in a robust and ingratiating performance by Music from Copland House.”
San Francisco Chronicle

“An acknowledged chamber music master.”
The New Yorker

Music from Copland House gave the New York Premiere of Pierre Jalbert’s Piano Trio No. 1 in 2004, when it was hailed as “a masterwork” by the American Record Guide. The ensemble has returned to this gripping composition many times since then, performing it widely and recording it on an all-Jalbert CD that has been widely acclaimed. The Trio explores two polar realms that balance the visceral and the spiritual. The first part, Life Cycle, is propulsive, wide-ranging, and at times almost primal; the second, called Agnus Dei (from that portion of the Latin Mass about redemption and the cleansing of life’s sins), is meditative and chant-like, and concludes by slowly ascending into an otherworldly serenity. Please join us for this free, hour-long program, which features Music from Copland House’s complete performance of this breathtaking work, and also includes an introductory conversation with the famed composer, and a post-performance, live Q&A with viewers.

Featured artists are violinist Curtis Macomber, cellist Thomas Kraines, and pianist Michael Boriskin.
